1. CD/DVD replication is similar to that of Blu-ray discs. However, CD/DVD content holders do not need an AACS key, as most content holder will have a CSS [content scramble system] encryption on their product during pre-mastering/authoring. CSS encryption for DVD products often are required to be placed on DLT tapes, or a UDF filed DVD-R. If a CSS is placed directly onto a DVD-R and mastered, the chances of failure during glass mastering is a high possibility.
2. i-Pak DVD accepts the following formats:
- CD-R
- CD-Audio [MP3]
- DVD-R
- DLT tapes
- External hard drive
- USB drive
3. Capacity Specs for CD/DVD
- CD-R – 650-700 GB single layer
- DVD-5 – 4.70 GB single layer
- DVD-9 – 8.54 GB dual layer
- DVD-10 – 17.08 GB A&B layers
4. Manufacturing Specs. & Steps from pre-mastered disc to replicated goods:
- CD/DVD share similarities, in that a master is made by the content holder and then turned over to i-Pak DVD to take on the goal of fulfilling all their required needs. Once a master is received, it is turned over to glass mastering, which often takes 1-2 days.
- Once the glass master is produced, it will go through a quality check process to confirm specs. If all is approved, the glass master will placed onto a CD/DVD molding machine located in a clean room environment. During which, a pressed disc will be quality tested again to verify quality control.
- Replicated goods are then ready for printing, packaging, and distribution.

“Word of Promise”
Background: August 2007, one of the oldest and largest faith-based publishing companies in the US released a title called “Word of Promise”. This product had three versions, ranging from twenty to twenty-eight programs per package. The total order size was 400,000 products, which meant kitting over 10 million components altogether.
Problem: The product had a very tight deadline, and the street date was looming. In addition, the complicated assembly during busy season meant having to setup a customized assembly line and making storage available for over fifteen large containers of products.
Solution: i-Pak DVD was contracted as a fulfillment partner to handle product packaging, storage, and shipments. i-Pak set-up a customized production line for the project with over 120 people running multiple daily shifts. As products were completed, i-Pak assisted with logistics to retail-distribution locations including Barnes and Noble, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and direct to retail stores.
Status: i-Pak shipped all 400,000 products, within five weeks, helping our client meet their release schedule. |

1. Whether you are printing on blank Blu-Ray/CD/DVD media or printing on manufactured discs with content, i-Pak DVD can offer you that service. With the ability to print up to 6 colors, pantone or offset printing, your media will color the world. Only the best in high quality UV curable ink is used.
2. Brief explanation of silkscreen & offset printing:
- Silkscreen prints - Silkscreen films which are often outputted on a clear film with black text, is then prepared on a screen. The screen allows ink to seep through for a high quality print result. The silkscreen texture is often glossy and slightly 3 dimensional, bringing your art to life, however, screen printing is often not compatible with art that requires gradient/tinting effects.
- Offset prints - Offset films which are often outputted on a black film with white text, is prepared on a litho plate, consisting of 4, 5, or 6 colors. This plate is then placed into the printing machine, where it will pick up the needed colors, and place the color down on the disc. Offset printing has almost no texture, and often used when gradient/tinting effects are required.
3. Once the printing process is complete, your manufactured goods will then be taken to an ID check machine. There, your products will be thoroughly checked one last time, to make sure all goods being distributed are yours. |
